I’ve been in a weekly trivia league for about the last 2 years. We generally do pretty well– we’re usually in the finals and even won for the Bay Area last year. The best moment of the night is when we put our heads together, and through random half remembered snippets from everyone, we are able to piece together the correct answer. The system isn’t infallible though. There are a lot of times when the half remembered thing is remembered half incorrectly. For instance, we had to figure out who had the best selling Christmas album of all time– Elvis Presley or Mariah Carey. Karen and I were like, “We can’t go anywhere without hearing this MC song.” “It was HUGE in Asia.” “I heard something about MC breaking some record…” “Why would they even ask if the answer is obvious?” And Colin is like, “Yeah, but Elvis has been around for so much longer, so much more time to sell albums.” We out voted him and he was right. :\ So sometimes we over think it.

Whilst taking a little break, I stumbled on this awesome video compiling some of the movie title designs Saul Bass made [via Art of the Title, Videogum, and OHYST].

This reminds me of my favorite credits sequence in a movie ever (who knew people had such a thing?). The end credits for Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events are the most memorable part of that movie. If you haven’t watched them before, they’re worth checking out:

Raw Materials

So this is me from this morning. Perky, wearing an unironic college t-shirt. Not a hipster.

Step 1. Returning to Nature.

This is my in my natural state– unibrow + old-timey mustache. Hipsters don’t care about that stuff. That’s what makes them cool.

Step 2. Toning down the happiness.

So part of being a hipster is not being too enthusiastic about things. I struggle with this on a daily basis (as evidenced by this enthusiastically dorky post). Oh wells, no judgements, right? Also, the unibrow + mustache are reminding me of junior high school and making me a little depressed. Perfect!

Step 3. Hipster glasses.

I debated about whether to go with the thick black frames, but I found these and fell in love. Oh crap. There I go again with the enthusiasm. :\ I have *got* to work on that.

Step 4. Bangs.

I’ve tried the bangs thing before in the past. It looks ok, but can get kind of hard to handle depending on the weather. Since this is only Photoshop Dana, I decided to go for it. I’ll be sure to talk more about my bangs in the future. (Oooh! Sarcasm is soooo hipster! Yes!)

Step 5. Ironic T-shirt

Though the Cal shirt is genuinely getting pretty vintage, I doubt that wearing my alma mater’s t-shirt is a hipster thing to do. (Admittedly, the reversed text is awesome. Like an ambulance!) So I changed it to teal and put Hipster Ariel on it and wrote some stuff on it in Impact font.

Step 6. Fixie Bike

Sure, why not? Done.

Step 7. Make sure the whole thing takes place in the 70′s and that the photo was taken with a crappy camera.

Time travel, the cheap and easy way!
