Good Job, Brain!

I’ve been in a weekly trivia league for about the last 2 years. We generally do pretty well– we’re usually in the finals and even won for the Bay Area last year. The best moment of the night is when we put our heads together, and through random half remembered snippets from everyone, we are able to piece together the correct answer. The system isn’t infallible though. There are a lot of times when the half remembered thing is remembered half incorrectly. For instance, we had to figure out who had the best selling Christmas album of all time– Elvis Presley or Mariah Carey. Karen and I were like, “We can’t go anywhere without hearing this MC song.” “It was HUGE in Asia.” “I heard something about MC breaking some record…” “Why would they even ask if the answer is obvious?” And Colin is like, “Yeah, but Elvis has been around for so much longer, so much more time to sell albums.” We out voted him and he was right. :\ So sometimes we over think it.

Anyway, we’re starting a podcast! We made a Kickstarter page for it. Karen also put together a beautiful site for it here:  http://www.goodjobbrain.com/

Please check it out and tell your friends!

RuPaul and Rainbow Sparkle Sugar Cubes

Between Thankgiving and crunching on the game, I’ve watched every single episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Netflix . It’s so sparkly and delightful and uplifting. And also kind of bitchy too. Then, when things get a little too mean, RuPaul comes in and is like, “That was pretty hilarious, but I’m not going to let you all bully each other too much. Let’s be amazing! Eleganza!” (I’m paraphrasing a bit.) Anyway, it’s awesome. Also, I want to make an app sometime where you can make yourself a Drag Queen (arg… tried to do a mockup in Photoshop real quick, but failed… oh well, another time.)

Also, watching RPDR inspired this (it’s a teeny tiny sneak peek from the upcoming game):

SOOO sweet

Pogo is Totally Sweet

Have you guys ever heard of Pogo, the Australian DJ who makes electronic music by mashing up movies and TV shows? The videos he makes for to go along with his songs are also pretty special. This is the song + video he just made out of Steven Spielberg’s AI.

He did a mashup of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland that is hypnotizing:

All of his stuff is awesome– his YouTube channel is here.

The Title Design of Saul Bass

I’ve been hard at work this week on our new game. Clarence made a ton of progress and now I’m working on concepting some characters and working on making sure it’s gonna be fun. I’ll definitely post more details as we make more progress.

Whilst taking a little break, I stumbled on this awesome video compiling some of the movie title designs Saul Bass made [via Art of the Title, Videogum, and OHYST].

This reminds me of my favorite credits sequence in a movie ever (who knew people had such a thing?). The end credits for Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate Events are the most memorable part of that movie. If you haven’t watched them before, they’re worth checking out:

Do you have a favorite credits sequence in a movie?

Portait of the Blogger as a Youngish Hipster

You know how sometimes you secretly wish you were a hipster? What’s that? You don’t wish for that? Um… Me neither. That’s why I spent all morning hipsterfying myself in Photoshop. Hey! This is a judgement-free zone.

Ground Zero of Hipsterfication Project

So this is me from this morning. Perky, wearing an unironic college t-shirt. Not a hipster.

The Doctor is in…

The Doctor is in...Welcome! And don’t worry about the mess. It’s perfectly  normal to be a little nervous. I’ll go grab a towel.
